Accelerated Learning Skills - Trainers
Phil Hardy

Phil had a thirty year career with Sussex Police. He is the author of the Second Edition of “Preparing for Police Duty”, the book aimed at those considering or starting a career in the police.

Most of his service was spent in the fields of major crime and intelligence (in the latter capacity he spent several years with a part of the Home Office and doing some work for a part of the Foreign Office, which saw him working and teaching in the USA, the Caribbean and the Middle East). However, in 2001 he took over as Head of Foundation Training, a post he held until his retirement from the force in the Autumn of 2006, being responsible for the training and development of over a thousand new officers.

He first discovered Accelerated Learning in 1990 and promptly used it to pass the Inspectors Qualifying exam with just 50 hours of study. He then went on to use those techniques to take a 2:1 honours degree in mathematics whilst being a Detective Inspector working across three continents and the father of a young family.

For many years Phil has been fascinated by two questions; why can some people learn quicker and easier than others and why are some trainers and presenters far more effective and engaging then most? It was seeking answers to those questions that led him to his deep understanding of Accelerated Learning, communication skills and group dynamics.

As well as his mathematics degree he holds a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and is a Certified Master NLP Practitioner.

Debra Wood

Debbie’s police career spanned more than twenty years in which time she worked in uniform, child protection, CID (specialising in investigating rape and other sexual offences), before becoming a Foundation Trainer.

Already a brilliant classroom trainer, she expanded her expertise by qualifying as a specialist trainer in diversity issues in 2004 and it was around this point that out of a passion for ensuring everyone should be able to reach their full potential that her interest in Accelerated Learning took off.

It is with this background, and as mother of two young children, that Debbie brings particular insight and value the Accelerated Learning Skills team.

As well as her class room training Debbie is rapidly gaining a strong reputation as an effective and especially motivating coach working on a one-to-one basis with learners and business people.

Debbie holds her teaching qualification (Cert. Ed) from the University of Brighton, a Diploma in Diversity and Fairness in Training and is a Certified NLP Practitioner.
